Nashville Musician Sets Concert Stop in Murray
Team effort: Singer shares success with Paducah native husband.

Since her self-titled debut album came out in February, Lynette Vantreese has consistently performed throughout the Southeast trying to make a name for herself.
Her latest stop is 15th and Olive, the Murray restaurant at 216 N. 15th St. Vantreese will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Musician Garrett Tucker of Nashville, Tenn., is the opening act.
"We played After Dinner Downtown (in Paducah) in May and September," Vantreese said. "Especially this summer, we hit it hard. We performed three or four nights a week with the tour. We've slowing it down for the winter. It's hard to write new material on the road."
Vantreese collaborated on the album with her husband, Paducah native and guitarist Brett Vantreese. "My name is on everything, but it's really a team effort," she said. "He's the producer of the album and functions as the band manager."
Vantreese lives in Nashville but grew up in a musical family in Spearfish, SD. "I would sing in church and school functions. It was almost hard not to (pursue a musical career). When you want it so bad, what else is there?"
Vantreese moved to Nashville after graduating from the Berklee School of Music in Boston. She said it wasn't always easy to fit into Nashville's country music scene. "Definitely getting started is really hard. My music is pop/rock with folk influences. On the industry level it was kind of hard to find my place. It has helped me stick out like a sore thumb and get more attention."
In recent months, Vantreese has opened for singer Edwin McCain at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn., and played to a sold-out crowd at Nashville's famous Bluebird Cafe. "When we were first getting started, we played wherever we could. Opening for Edwin McCain was the best thing. Afterwards we had kids lining up wanting my autograph and wanting their picture made with me."
Vantreese and her husband are now working on a second album. "We're going to continue to perform at as many places possible and build our following," she said. "We're writing new material. Everything is just starting to happen."
